Grief-informed presence for difficult hours

Grief Companion Support

Someone to stay with you in the hardest parts of the day

Grief Companion Support offers one-to-one, grief-informed support for both the hard moments and the everyday functioning that grief disrupts. In Grief Companion Sessions, we can:

  • Stay with you through specific hard situations—anniversaries, events, errands, or cemetery visits
  • Help you understand common grief patterns, cycles, and why grief doesn’t move in a straight line
  • Practice coping skills that fit your life, including grounding, small rituals, and escape hatches for overwhelming moments
  • Support adjustment and organization by breaking days into manageable pieces, building gentle routines, and deciding what can wait
  • Plan one or two realistic tasks, schedule them into the day, and build in recovery time

This is educational and supportive—not therapy. We don’t diagnose or treat. We focus on helping you understand what you’re living through and giving you practical ways to move through the day with less self-blame.

A different kind of help

Why this kind of support exists

Many grieving people don’t want to burden friends or family. Others are surrounded by people who think deep grief means they’re “mentally ill” or should be in the hospital. Some have no one who understands, or they’ve exhausted the patience of those around them. They’re not looking for someone to fix their grief. They’re looking for someone who knows loss and will stay with them while they do what the day demands.

  • When loved ones don’t understand or minimize the loss
  • When you fear being judged as “too emotional” or “not coping”
  • When you need support but don’t want to place more weight on the people around you

Clear expectations

What this is—and what it isn’t

What it is

  • One-to-one, grief-informed companionship by phone or video
  • Support for day-to-day functioning when ordinary tasks feel impossible
  • A safe, non-judgmental space to cry, talk, sit in silence, or move through a hard moment
  • Grief-informed education and coping support to help you understand your experience and find gentle, realistic ways to get through the day
  • Practical help with adjustment, organization, scheduling, and task management when grief makes ordinary functioning feel impossible

What it isn’t

  • Not therapy or counseling: we don’t diagnose, treat, or promise clinical outcomes. If you need therapy, I can help you find licensed support
  • Not crisis intervention or an emergency response service
  • Not medical or psychiatric care, or a replacement for licensed mental health treatment
  • Not focused on “fixing” you or making you move on before you’re ready

Support shaped around real life

What we can do together

Sessions are shaped around what your day actually looks like. Here are some of the ways people use Grief Companion Support:

Hard anniversaries and dates

Birthdays, death dates, holidays, graduation seasons, court dates, and other “circle the calendar” days. We plan ahead for how you’ll move through the day, and I stay near you by phone or video during the most difficult parts so you’re not alone.

After-work decompression

You’ve held yourself together all day—at the office, around other parents, or in front of people who don’t understand. Our session gives you a safe place to cry, say their name, talk about what hurt, or simply sit with someone who gets it.

Daily triggers and public spaces

Grocery stores, school parking lots, playgrounds, church, or the mall can feel unbearable after a loss. We can be on audio while you walk in, choose only what you can manage, and leave without having to explain why you’re struggling.

Family events and social obligations

For holidays, birthdays, weddings, showers, and reunions, schedule a session or check-in during or just after the event. It gives you a natural way to step out, breathe, and be with someone who understands without pushing you to “be okay.”

Doing one necessary task

Clean out one drawer, go through one box, make one phone call, send one email, or walk into one office. I stay with you while you begin, notice when you’re overwhelmed, and help you pause or stop without shame.

Planning one manageable day

Together we look at what’s on your plate, choose a few realistic tasks, build in rest, and adjust expectations so you’re not trying to live as if nothing has changed.

Quiet companionship when you don’t have words

Sometimes the session is simply sitting together on video or audio while you rest, cry, or stare out the window. You don’t have to talk the whole time or perform. You get to feel how it is, with someone there.

Cemetery visits with someone on the line

You drive or walk to the cemetery while we’re on the phone or video. I don’t tell you what to feel or say. I stay with you while you arrive, walk, sit, and leave, so you don’t have to do it entirely alone.

Small anchors for ordinary life

Tiny skills and practical adjustments

Grief doesn’t just hurt emotionally—it makes ordinary life feel impossible. In Grief Companion Sessions, we can work on tiny, realistic skills that help you feel a little more capable without pretending you’re “back to normal.”

  • Choose one micro-task twice a day.A two-minute floor sweep in the morning; washing or putting away five dishes in the evening.
  • Simplify your environment during hard stretches.Use paper plates so there’s less cleaning, move important items closer to where you sit, and let some things wait.
  • Practice accepting help without calling it failure.Let someone else do the laundry, mow the grass, bring a meal, or run an errand.
  • Build calm breaks into work.Take a bathroom break or short walk, use a calming app, or play a quiet game for a few minutes to help your nervous system reset.
  • Get creative about getting through the day.Choose one small comfort, one small task, one safe escape, and permission for the rest to remain unfinished.

These are not about “fixing” grief. They’re about giving your mind and body small anchors so you can survive today—and maybe feel a tiny bit less overwhelmed.

A place to be honest

Who Grief Companion Support is for

This is for people who are trying to function in the world while carrying a loss that most people around them don’t fully understand. You might have some support, but you don’t want to keep leaning on the same friends and family, or they’re starting to worry you’re “not coping” instead of recognizing that grief is heavy and real.

  • You worry about burdening the people you love with how bad it really feels.
  • You’ve been told to “be strong” or “move on,” but your body and heart aren’t there.
  • You’re managing work, parenting, or daily tasks but feel shattered underneath.
  • You want steady, knowledgeable presence in specific hard moments—not ongoing therapy, but more than “text me if you need anything.”

Working alongside other care

How this fits with therapy

Grief Companion Support is not therapy and does not replace licensed mental health care. I don’t diagnose, prescribe, or create treatment plans. Many people use this alongside therapy, support groups, spiritual care, or other services—as focused help for getting through the day.

If at any point it seems like you’d benefit more from therapy or crisis support, I’ll say so kindly and help you find appropriate resources.

One difficult moment at a time

Ready to have someone with you in the hardest parts of the day?

If you’d like support for a specific date, event, or stretch of time, we can start with one session or a three-session bundle. You don’t have to know exactly what you need; you just have to know it’s too heavy to keep carrying alone.
